Skin Biopsies

If a rash or growth cannot be identified with confidence by examination alone, a small sample can settle the question. A skin biopsy removes tissue for laboratory examination; punch and shave techniques answer different questions and are chosen according to the lesion or rash being investigated.

The reason for the biopsy, the method, local anesthesia, the expected mark and the pathology process are explained before the procedure. Results are reviewed in context so they can guide the next stage of care.
